ABOUT GrEEN VELVET
Curtis Jones, better known as Green Velvet, is a pioneering figure in Chicago house music. Starting his career as Cajmere, he released influential tracks like "Coffeepot" and founded the Cajual and Relief Records labels. He then transitioned into the Green Velvet persona, complete with a signature green wig, exploring a more techno-focused sound and producing club hits like "Preacher Man," "Flash," and the humorous "Answering Machine." Green Velvet's music often blends humor with social commentary, tackling issues like racism and drug use, notably on the album Whatever which featured the massive hit "La La Land." His live performances evolved to include a keytar and supporting musicians, earning him a dedicated following, particularly in Europe. Throughout his career, Jones has consistently experimented and evolved, releasing albums like Constant Chaos and Walk In Love while also exploring various side projects and remixes. Despite these stylistic shifts, his music remains firmly rooted in the Chicago house sound.
